EIA Marselis Tunnel

At present Marselis Boulevard is congested - especially by heavy traffic to and from the harbour. With the massive undergoing expansion of the southern industrial harbour, the traffic pressure on the boulevard will increase considerably in the next decade. In order to counter this problem, a considerable upgrade of the infrastructure to and from the harbour was desired.

The upgraded road traces the southern edge of the river valley, until it meets the plateau of the city. Here it separates into two lines, an upgraded urban boulevard on the surface and a 1,8 km dual pipe tunnel below the boulevard. Several different routes and options where investigated and evaluated as well as aestetic qualities of the boulevard, the tunnel, possible noise abatements and a general planting strategy.
